From 3 to 9 August 2026 we held our summer camp for children, “The Sky is Calling”. This year the camp became a pilot academy, and the children became cadets learning the skills that help them get through any difficulty.
The pilot academy
Through daily sessions and group discussions, the cadets explored the qualities of character that matter — trust, truth and patience — and found the greatest example of all of them in Jesus Christ.
Up in a hot air balloon
The highlight of the camp, of course, was going up in a hot air balloon. Everyone had the chance to see it up close, learn how it works, and take a ride together with friends. The children were overjoyed.
Workshops and activities
- FlyCraft — soldering aeroplanes: an electronics workshop where participants learn to use a soldering iron and build themselves planes with circuit boards and blinking lights.
- Apple Vision Pro headsets — step inside a small aircraft, examine and take apart an aircraft engine, and walk all the way around a Formula 1 racing car.
- AirDrop — archery, and building accuracy on the target.
- Taste at Altitude — making desserts that are both delicious and good for you and your friends.
- Make Your Wings — participants make themselves T-shirts with wings using a special technique: learning to reuse materials to make something new, unusual and beautiful to keep.
- “Tarzan” — climbing frames and building strength.
- “Cow-Virus” — a quest: work your way through it and find the hidden places in order to cure the virus.
There were more than a hundred of us
The camp brought together more than 100 people, with a team of 40+ making it happen. Great food, a lot of new friends, and a huge amount of good memories.
What comes next
Our next event is the youth conference “Edges of the Future” on 11–14 August. After that we look ahead to Maranafa Point — a one-day gathering of Maranafa friends — and in November, Maranafa Friends, a three-day camp.
